Himayat Inayati
Saturday, October 30 | 2:15pm – 3:45pm

An experiential session of living with the Big Heart, Himayat will teach us how to access the subtle heart. Learn how to listen, speak, and act consciously from the heart and how to use one of the heart’s greatest gifts, the meeting place, "the Realm of Mythal."

Himayat Inayati, Th.D. is a traveler on the path of the heart. He has been a member of the Sufi Order International since 1972, receiving the sacred transmission of Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan and Murshid Samuel Lewis. For 20 years, Himayat was the international head of The Sufi Healing Order. He has been a catalytic figure in the ongoing dialogue between science, spirituality, and healing, organizing 26 conferences in support of it. The founder of The Raphaelite Work, a method of healing and transformational process rooted in Sufism and updated by modern psychology and body work, Himayat has taught mysticism and spirituality in 14 different countries. His teaching is lucid, accessible and humorous, orienting the ancient mystical teaching of the major world spiritual traditions toward solutions of contemporary issues. Himayat is the founder/president of Universal Awakening. He and his wife Shahida co-direct Light of Mountains Retreat Center, in Leicester, North Carolina, near Asheville.

Glenis Redmond
Sunday October 31 | 9:00am – 10:00am

Glenis Redmond is poet, educator, performer, and counselor rolled into one passionate soul. She presents her poetry in performances that cause the printed word to spring from the page and dance, sing, weep, and laugh. Glenis tells stories with poetry from her life, her family, her African-American heritage, and her sensitive observations of the world around her — inspiring audiences of all ages. Glenis began writing poetry at the age of 12. She worked for seven years as a family counselor. While enrolled in a Doctoral program in psychology, she rediscovered her love for poetry. Pregnancy with twins and a serious illness helped her find the strength to follow her heart and dedicate her life to her childhood passion. Glenis has won numerous awards including The Carrie McCray Literary Award in Poetry, a study fellowship from Vermont Writing Center, study scholarships to the Atlantic Center for the Arts and a week of study with Natalie Goldberg. Glenis is the 1997 and the 1998 Southeast Regional Individual Poetry Slam Champion. She placed in the Top 10 in 1996 and 1997 at the National Individual Slam Championship.

workshop graphic iconTEACHING THE ENNEAGRAM FROM THE INSIDE-OUT
Bill Schafer and Alice Mixer
Friday, October 29 | 4:00pm – 5:30pm

This approach uses simple exercises to teach people their habitual mode of processing experience (center), then their typical form of life energy (yin, yang, or reconciling). From this “inside feel” of how energy moves (or gets stuck), the teaching then moves “outward” to the preoccupations and behavioral patterns of type.

Bill Schafer and Alice Mixer have used this approach with audiences in California, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Idaho, and Arizona as well as in their home state of Michigan. Alice is a clinical social worker and a life-long spiritual seeker. Bill is a clinical psychologist who has spent forty years practicing and teaching about clinical work with infants, toddlers and their families. He is also author of Roaming Free Inside the Cage: a Daoist Approach to the Enneagram and Spiritual Transformation, New York: iUniverse, 2009.

workshop graphic iconA TRANSFORMATiVE METHOD TO ENGAGE THE ESSENTIAL SELF — WORKING COGNITIVELY WITH TYPES' MINDSETS IN ONE-TO-ONE SETTINGS
Anne Wotring, Ph.D. | Friday, October 29 | 4:00pm – 5:30pm

This workshop will demonstrate how Anne helps her coaching clients take quantum leaps forward, combining both Enneagram type knowledge and an elegant cognitive questioning approach called Inquiry. Inquiry involves identifying one's own type's beliefs and engaging one's greater mind in examining them using four straight-forward questions: Is it true? Can you absolutely know it's true? How do you react when you believe the thought? Who would you be without the thought? (This method is also called The Work of Byron Katie.) As clients engage these questions, their minds' open to their inherent, larger capacity, resulting in greater freedom from their Type's habitual constraints and limited perspectives, regularly producing decidedly alchemical gestalts.

Anne Wotring, Ph.D. is a leadership and life coach, group facilitator, educator, speaker and writer, whose gift lies in translating esoteric, spiritual concepts into mainstream culture.

workshop graphic iconSHORT TAKES
Four 20-minute presentations | Four Topics
Saturday, October 30 | 4:00pm – 5:30pm

1 - STRATEGIES FOR TYPING CLIENTS TO FACILITATE SELF-INQUIRY
David K. Banner, PhD
This session focuses on typing others who want to use the Enneagram for self-inquiry. We'll discuss "lookalike types," the influence of the stress and comfort arrows, and how to use them to narrow down on a specific type. Finally, David will demonstrate how to use compare-and-contrast questions to help determine type for a client, noting, of course, that the final decision on type must come from the clients themselves.

David K. Banner, Ph.D., is a mentor for Walden University, community volunteer , author, former business entrepreneur, consultant, and writer. He lives his life with zest, enthusiasm, and joy!

2 - WEAVING TEACHING AND FACILITATION
Leslie Hershberger
While teaching assumes a position of primacy in imparting unfamiliar information, facilitation invites one into relationship with self, other, and topic; each has inherent value and both have the potential to transform the teacher as well as the student. This session will begin with a brief centering practice, a crucial skill that can elicit a state-shift that enhances receptivity and openness. Participants will have the opportunity to complete a take-home self-inquiry worksheet in which they explore their obstacles when teaching or facilitating.

Leslie Hershberger, a teacher since 1982, weaves the Enneagram, integral theory, and contemplative practice into the workshops she offers to teachers, high schoolers, adult students, and recovering addicts in the Integral Recovery Program. She mentors ESNT (EPTP) teachers and is currently doing facilitation training for the facilitators in the Off the Streets program, which assists women moving beyond prostitution and addiction.

3 - LEADERSHIP IN MANAGING CHANGE
Vibha Gosselin and Jerome Virouleau
Discover how to use the Enneagram in a two-day training to develop leadership when managing change. We’ll explore how the three centers interact and will engage exercises and sharing about your own personal experience of change.

Vibha Gosselin's daily use of the Enneagram strengthens her basic practice of Sri Aurobindo's Integral Yoga. She is interested in developing material that combines both approaches to human growth.

Jerome Virouleau has been teaching the Enneagram in France to leaders, managers, and employees for the past ten years. Along with the Enneagram, he combines various management techniques (communications, conflict management) in his training sessions. Jerome is also a team building coach.

4 – SOMATIC AWARENESS
Peter O'Hanrahan
How can we incorporate simple breathing and stretching exercises into our daily routine and into our teaching work with groups? What's important is bodywork which supports learning, vitality and embodiment in ways that people will remember. If it feels good - we're more likely to practice!

Peter has been combining the Enneagram with somatic work since 1978 with an emphasis on Reichian/Bioenergetic bodywork. He teaches the Embodied Enneagram workshop and writes about the somatic profiles of the nine character types.

workshop graphic iconThe Master, The Mystic, and The Muse | Eric Wheeler
Saturday, October 30 | 4:00pm – 5:30pm

Frank Lloyd Wright’s third wife, Olgivanna, was an early and lifelong devotee of Gurdjieff’s Fourth Way mysticism and introduced Frank to Gurdjieff and his teachings. How much of Wright’s post-Prairie Style architecture was influenced by Gurdjieff’s spiritual understandings of the material world through Olgivanna? This presentation is intended to be more speculative than scholarly in addressing this question.

Eric Wheeler offers seminars and private consultations in the Enneagram for churches, schools, businesses, and individuals in the upper Midwest. He is an adjunct faculty member of Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin and a consultant for historic preservation.

workshop graphic iconMASTER PANELS
David Daniels M.D.
Saturday, October 30 | 4:00pm – 5:30pm

David will focus on the secrets to masterful panel leadership interwoven with presenting the core theme for all of us, the three centers of intelligence. This session is for those who wish to hone their panel interviewing skills and receive feedback from one of the panel interviewing masters. Participants will interview panelists as well as sit on panels to offer feedback for interviewers.
